SAN DIEGO — California Baptist University kept pace, despite a week off its last event, and saw multiple Lancers find success, including two on the verge of provisional marks, at the San Diego State Invitational Friday night.
McMarshall Hartzenburg set a new CBU record in the 3K, clocking in at eight minutes, 22.28 seconds. It was good for first place by over a second, beating out several NCAA Division I athletes in the process.
Simon Bedard, Anthony Lozano and Pierre-Louis Detourbe each finished in the top-10 of the 1500m event, but just missed out on provisional marks. Bedard took fourth overall in a time of 3:52.19, less than a second and a half off the qualifying mark.
Lozano, who was one of the first Lancers to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship in 2016, looks to make a repeat appearance this year. He took seventh in the 1500m with a time of 3:53.40, while Detourbe took ninth overall, clocking in at 3:54.45.
William Ernst posted a solid time of 3:57.84 in the 1500m, taking 15th overall, and Dennis Messmer finished 20th with a time of 3:59.40.
CBU heads to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival next week, hoping to keep progressing forward toward the postseason.
