CLAREMONT, Calif. — Despite some runners resting for the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational approaching in two weeks, California Baptist University still saw more runners punch their ticket for the PacWest Championship Meet at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday.
Simon Bedard led the Lancers and took second place in his first career 800-meter event, clocking in at one minute, 53.34 seconds, only one second shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Dennis Messmer finished the 800-meter event strong in 1:55.07, while Mike Alukunyang followed, coming in at 1:57.55, as all three runners qualified for the PacWest Championship taking place in Fresno, California in the end of April.
Anthony Lozano took ninth place in the 1500-meter race in 3:56.60, just three seconds shy of passing his personal best time of 3:53.40.
With the postseason fastly approaching, CBU will split up for the first time of the season April 20-21, as some Lancers travel to the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific, while others will compete in the Mt. SAC Relays. The Lancers are hoping for some more NCAA qualifying marks and improve upon the ones they already have.
