CBU Puts In Extra for Sweep

FRESNO, Calif. – A bases-loaded walk in the top of the 11^th secured a 3-2 California Baptist University win and PacWest series sweep of Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon in Fresno.

The 24^th-ranked Lancers in NCAA Division II improve to 25-13, 18-10 in the PacWest and the Sunbirds drop to 15-19, 12-16. CBU next visits top-ranked Azusa Pacific for a four-game series next week, with first pitch coming Thursday at 5 p.m.

CBU's bullpen did an impressive job of holding FPU in check after it scored a run in the third and fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2 after the Lancers scored twice in the second inning. Logan Rinehart earned the win after throwing two shutout innings in the 10^th and 11^th. The sophomore struck out five and gave up a hit and two walks.

Ryan Silva and Morgan Earman both threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for CBU. Earman struck out four and did not allow a baserunner, while Silva overcame three walks and struck out one Sunbird.

Tommy Bell sparked the two-run second of the Lancers with a leadoff double. FPU got the next two outs, but Ryan Williams drove in Bell with a two-out single, moved to third on a throwing error and then scored on another error.

Both pitching staffs and defenses tightened up late in the game, but the Sunbirds faltered in the 11^th. Luke Navigato started the 11^th with a single and two-straight hit by pitches to Tanner Amaral and Andrew Bash loaded the bases with no outs. FPU managed to get the next two outs, but John Glenn drew a four-pitch walk to bring in the winning run.

Bash went 2-for-3 in the game, while Navigato, Bell, Kyle Oyama and Williams also had hits in the win.
