RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Last year, California Baptist University set a program record with 12 players named to the Western Water Polo Association's All-Academic team and the Lancers matched that feat again this season.
Jonny Lotero, Christian Britton, Kyle Christian, Matthew Diacono, Joseph Galgani, Thomas Henline, Dominick Nevarez, Caleb Rogers, Kyle Rasmussen, Ryan Sargis, Tanner Shore and Gabe Thorne all earned all-academic accolades from the conference. All-Academic team members qualified for recognition by posting a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average as a full-time student-athlete, while also playing in at least half of the team's contests in 2017.
Henline, a senior, made WWPA All-Academic all four years at CBU, while Shore has made all three teams he's been eligible for with the Lancers. Lotero, Nevarez, Diacono, Rogers and Rasmussen have also made the team both years they've been available.
CBU enjoyed a great season athletically, as well academically, ending the year with a 21-14 record and taking fourth in the WWPA. The Lancers secured their best-ever seed for the conference tournament (third) and had a record five players named All-WWPA before advancing to the conference semifinals for the third year in a row.
