#15 CBU Set to Return to WCC Tournament Championship After Defeating #6 Pacific During Semifinals

USAF, CO--- The five-seed #15 California Baptist men's water polo program did exactly what it needed to on Saturday afternoon after taking down one-seed #6 University of the Pacific in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament. The 15-12 victory secured CBU's third consecutive season of earning a ticket to the tournament championship, which will be played tomorrow against the two-seed, #9 San Jose State. The Lancers are now 24-10 this season.

Strong offense was the name of the game for the Lancers, with standout performances from Wyatt Bugbee, Alex Righetti, and Andrea Nuzzo, each scoring three goals. The first frame was highly competitive, ending in a 3-3 tie. However, the second quarter proved more successful for CBU, as they erupted for eight goals, establishing a commanding lead at halftime, while limiting the Tigers to just three goals.

Pacific fought back in the third quarter, attempting to close the gap with four goals, but CBU maintained its lead thanks to contributions from Luca Imbriolo and Whitley Beamon. The Lancers finished strong with two goals in the final quarter to seal their victory.

Tanner McCreary came up big in goal for CBU, making six saves, while the Lancers totaled seven different scorers during their semifinal match. With the win, California Baptist advances to the finals, where they will attempt to defend their title and return to the NCAA Tournament during the first week of December at Stanford University.
