Storming Past the Tigers

JACKSON, Miss. — Rain may have pushed back the start of California Baptist University's game Thursday at Jackson State, but the Lancers took the field by storm en route to a 4-0 win.

CBU improves to 4-1-0 on the year, while JSU drops to 0-5-0.

"Being on the road is always difficult," said Coach Kristen St. Clair. "It was a good test for us since this was our first regular-season road trip and I think we did some really good things. We had some nice finishes, but we still need to be a little more consistent."

The Lancers out-shot the Tigers 25-to-4 on the day, including an 11-to-1 shots on goal advantage.

"I thought we did a good job on both sides of the ball," said St. Clair. "We had some nice goals and generated some great attacking opportunities in the box. We controlled the game really well."

It didn't take long for the Lancers to strike first. Jordan Dow put CBU on the board less than four minutes into the game, capitalizing on a cross from Rebecca Romero.

Cora Jacoby doubled CBU's lead in the 17th minute with a shot back from the Lancers' side of the field. It sailed toward the goal and bounced up and over the Tiger goalkeeper's head to give the Lancers a 2-0 cushion.

CBU would score twice more before the half ended to all but secure the 4-0 victory.

In the 30th minute, Romero got her second assist of the day, this time finding Desarae Felix on the other end for a goal, 3-0.

Just four minutes before halftime, Miranda Martinez found the back of the net to give her team a commanding 4-0 lead.

CBU created more chances in the second half, looking like it might rack up the score line even more, but JSU held out for the 4-0 result.

The Lancers continue their road trip in Mississippi with a trip to Mississippi Valley State

"It's good to see where we're at," said St. Clair. "Each half we're trying to be better than the last and each game we're trying to be better than the last. We certainly did that today. Now we're focusing on Mississippi Valley State for Saturday."
