
CBU Wins California Collegiate Open

RESULTS
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Six California Baptist University wrestlers advanced to the championship round of their brackets to help the Lancers lock up the team title at San Francisco State's California Collegiate Open on Saturday.
Evan Bockman and Ali'i Loyola went on to win the respective 174 and 197-pound weight classes to headline the day. Zander Silva (141), AJ Raya (149), Bryce Buckley (165) and Zach Schrader (285) all took runner-up in their divisions. CBU returns to action on February 16th, with a road trip to Philadelphia for a dual against Drexel.
Bockman won three of his four matches by decision on Saturday. He started out with a 6-5 win over Simon Fraser's Logan Nelson and a 6-4 victory over San Francisco State's Jacob Mendoza. He clinched his spot in the first-place match with a pin of Menlo College's Young An in three minutes. Bockman then defeated SFSU's Kurtis Clem, 5-3, to claim the championship.

Loyola opened his day with a strong 12-5 decision over Luke Allan of New Mexico Highlands. He then pinned Simon Fraser's Nolan Badovinac and Jarred Dixon to advance to the first-place match, which Stanford's Judah Duhm forfeited due to injury.

Silva picked up where he left off at Stanford last night, picking up victories by decision over Simpson's Adrian Marrufo, Stanford's Tony Williams, Oregon State's Riley Gurr and Angelo Martinoni to advance to the first-place match, which he forfeited.Â

Raya took second place after defeating Joshua Arrieta of Menlo via major decision. Raya took victories by decision over Life Pacific's Aaron Mora, Zack Evans of Oregon State. Raya then fell to Menlo's Terrill Sidner in the first-place match.

Buckley was dominant leading up to the first-place match, grabbing a major decision victory over John Andrade and pinning Stanford's Foster Karmon in less than a minute. Buckley then fell to Adam Kemp by a 5-2 decision.

Schrader opened the day in dominant fashion, grabbing a tech fall victory over Menlo's Thomas Schmitt. Schrader then won closer matches via decision against Nishan Randhawa of Simon Fraser and Seville Hayes. Schrader's lone defeat of the day came on a 3-0 decision to Stanford's David Showummi.

Dilan Atjun got off to a hot start, winning his first two matches via tech fall. Atjun came just one win shy of the championship match, losing in a tight 6-5 decision to Brandon Vu of San Francisco State. Atjun then claimed a 6-5 victory of his own over New Mexico Highlands' Dominic Rivera to advance to the third-place match. Brandon Kaylor claimed the victory in a high-scoring matchup.
