Lancers Defeat A Pair Of Ranked Opponents in One Day

SANTA CLARA -- For the second time in CBU men's water polo history, the Lancers swept ranked St. Francis (#18) and Bucknell (#15) in back-to-back games, improving their record to 11-13. They accomplished the same feat in 2016. Additionally, the wins avenge a pair of defeats to the same teams earlier this season.
The Lancers first defeated the Terriers in the morning by a single goal, 11-10, and then took down the Bison 14-12 in the afternoon.Â
Against St. Francis, the Lancers epitomized team play, being led in goals by Logan Mena (3), assists by PJ McDonough (4) while Joe Galgani (2 goals, 2 assists) and Riley Bumgardner (1 goal, 1 assist) each left marks in both stat columns.
CJ Britton, typically a facilitator on offense, had one assist, but accounted for six Terrier turnovers as well as a field block.
Tristan Felberg manned the cage in game one, recording 10 saves, a pair of steals, and even helped out offensively with an assist.
The final game of the day pitted the Lancers against the Bison of Bucknell, and the rematch did not disappoint. The teams were tied at the end of the first, second, and third quarters before the Lancers claimed victory with a 5-3 final frame.Â
Galgani was at the forefront of the match, scoring four goals and assisting on another two. McDonough matched his assist total from the first game to give him eight on the day.Â
In the final game, it was Gabe Thorne protecting the net for CBU, and he did so to the tune of 15 saves, three steals, and an assist.Â
In all, 11 Lancers made an offensive dent on the stat sheet, recording either a goal or an assist, in both games today.
The Lancers close out a big weekend winning three of their four matches, and seven of their last nine overall. They will head into the final stretch of their season, competing in the last four regular season games of the year between Oct. 31 and Nov. 9.
