MWP Preview: CBU Set to Compete in Prestigious MPSF Invitational

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University men's water polo team will head up to NorCal this weekend as they compete in the prestigious MPSF Invitational in Stanford, California.
The Lancers enter the tournament 9-1, which is the team's best start since 2010, and are coming off a 2-0 home stand in which they defeated Biola and Redlands at the Lancer Aquatics Center. CBU is ranked 16th in the CWPA National poll and has a ranked win over #16 Harvard at the Bruno Classic.
The MPSF Invitational is one of the most heavy-hitting tournaments in men's water polo and will feature 15 of the top 16 teams in the country, including the top four: UCLA, USC, Stanford, and Cal. The tournament will also feature CBU's Big West peers, including #6 Long Beach State, #9 UCSD, #13 UC Irvine, and #14 UCSB.
The Lancers will face off with #2 USC on Friday afternoon to kick off the tournament. The Trojans and Lancers have not faced off since the 2024 NCAA Tournament, when CBU made its first-ever NCAA postseason appearance. The Trojans are unbeaten to begin the season at 7-0 and have ranked wins over #13 UC Irvine, #9 Pepperdine, #7 Long Beach State, and #15 UCSB.
Depending on the results of the opening match, the Lancers will compete in two more matches on Saturday in the afternoon and evening before concluding the tournament on Sunday.
