EDINBURG --- California Baptist University started its second leg of Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as the Lancers returned the favor and traveled to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
CBU was unsuccessful to exact its revenge on the Vaqueros, as the Lancers fell, 18-25, 25-20, 18-25, 17-25. The Lancers have played the defending WAC champions tough all year, as the last time these two teams met, the Lancers took the Vaqueros to five in the Van Dyne Gym.
The loss moves CBU to 10-12 on the season and 4-5 in the WAC, while the Vaqueros improve to 12-12 and 6-4 in conference play.
The Vaqueros were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead before Yagoda Jedrzejczak helped the Lancers run off four straight points with a service ace. Ellie Voss and Christine Graf ended the run with a huge block to give the Lancers the 4-3 advantage.

The second set started off like the first, with the Vaqueros taking an early two-point lead. The Lancers were able to record their first tie of the match at 8-8 on a Jedrzejczak solo block.

UTRGV was able to bounce back in the third, and the Lancers didn't help themselves with a handful of attacking errors. Still, CBU was able to hang around and tie the set at 17-17 before the Vaqueros went on 7-1 run to take the 2-1 lead.
The Vaqueros jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the fourth set, and despite their best efforts, the Lancers were unable to close the gap.
Sydney Marks led the team with a team-high nine kills, while Megan Sester and Cassidy Dennison tallied eight each. Jedrzejczak finished with two aces, four blocks (two solo), and four kills.
The Lancers will stay on the road before they are back in action against NM State on Monday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
