10/30/2019 5:10:00 PM | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University has finalized broadcast plans for the upcoming 2019-20 basketball seasons. Braiden Bell has been named the radio play-by-play voice for all home and away men's basketball games airing on Fox Sports Radio AM 1350 (KPWK), while Pep Fernandez will hold the commentator responsibilities for the majority of men's and women's basketball home games being shown through the Western Athletic Conference Digital Network (WACDN).
Bell is arriving from Arizona State University, where he broadcasted numerous baseball, football, men's basketball, softball, volleyball and women's basketball games for Blaze Radio. He recently graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism with a minor in Marketing. The Cronkite School is widely recognized as one of the nation's premier professional journalism programs. While working at Blaze Radio, ASU's student radio station, Bell also served as a Sports Director and Show Host. He earned national recognition when named "Best Sports Director" by Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS). A notable highlight during Bell's tenure included being the first student in ASU history to call a game for the Sun Devil Radio Network. Bell also has experience as a play-by-play broadcaster for the PAC-12 Networks and the Orleans Firebirds Baseball Club. He has also served as a member of the Digital Team for the past three NCAA Men's Basketball Final Fours.
"I am extremely excited and humbled to be the voice of the Lancers," Bell said. "It's clear to me that this program is on the rise nationally and I can't wait to help tell the story of this journey throughout the season for the Lancer Nation."
Fernandez is an award winning 20-year industry veteran with an abundance of experience in a variety of roles during his career. Fernandez is the owner and executive producer of the Inland Sports Show, an entity that launched in August of 2014 to provide local sports coverage for the Inland Empire. He has been the basketball play-by-play broadcaster for UC Riverside since 2017. Fernandez has also served as a reporter/producer with The Press-Enterprise (2011-14) and sports director of KERO-ABC23 in Bakersfield, Calif. (2003-11). He earned a degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcasting and a minor in Speech from Humboldt State University in 2000.
"I've had the honor of covering California Baptist University basketball on the Inland Sports Show the past five seasons," Fernandez said. "Now, to officially be part of the Lancer family is a true blessing. The environment inside the CBU Events Center is second-to-none and I look forward to getting a front row seat to another great season of CBU hoops."
