Lancers Tabbed as Repeat Runner-Ups in Preseason Polls

DENVER --- The Western Athletic Conference released its women's basketball preseason media and coaches polls Wednesday, and California Baptist University was voted to finish second in both. The Lancers were just a few votes shy of NM State in both surveys, the reigning regular season and tournament champions.
California Baptist also received three of the 13 available first-place votes in the media poll, while collecting two of the nine available first-place votes in the coaches poll. CBU earned this respect after completing its first season in NCAA Division I with an overall record of 18-12 and a conference mark of 11-5. The Lancers were also just the second team in WNIT history to receive an invitation to the postseason tournament and host a first-round game in their inaugural season of eligibility.
Individual preseason predictions were also released, with CBU finding its way onto both the Media and Coaches Preseason All-WAC teams. Last season's WAC Newcomer of the Year, Britney Thomas was the only Lancer to be named to the first team. Teammate Ane Olaeta joined her on the first-team list for the coaches list, and made the cut for the second team on the media list.
Head coach Jarrod Olson will no doubt be asked to give his thoughts on these predictive votes when he sits down for the 2019 WAC Preseason Show on Wednesday. Olson is slated to be interviewed live at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time and can be seen on the WAC Digital Network.
