Five Lancers Take Top 10 at Oxy

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – California Baptist University placed five runners in the top 10 at the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic on Saturday.

Simon Bedard posted the best finish of the day for the Lancers when he took fourth place in the 5,000 meter. Bedard crossed the line at 14 minutes, 26.69 seconds in the first 5K race of the season for CBU. The Lancers next compete at the two-day UC Riverside Invitational on March 23-24.

Timothy Legemet maintained his impressive start to his Lancer career when he took ninth in 14:30.39. Another newcomer to CBU, Zlatko Kozuhar (14:43.89), put in a top-20 finish at 20^th place. Hector Peralta (15:02.66) took 41^st place.

Koby Ghadery (53^rd, 15:06.73) and Cody Beeson (85^th, 15:25.43) had the next-best finishes for the Lancers. Mason Dowell (16:15.41) and Nathaniel Wong (16:19.11) rounded out the CBU runners in the 5K.

In 1,500-meter action, CBU saw three runners break in to the top 10. Dennis Messmer took seventh place in 3:57.94 to pace the Lancers. Mike Alukunyang (4:00.76) and McMarshall Hartzenburg (4:01.41) followed soon after to take the ninth and tenth spots, respectively.

Jayden Emerson (20^th, 4:06.65) and Michael Lowrie (23^rd, 4:08.02) placed in the top 25 in the 1,500, as well. Emerson improved upon his season-best time by more than five seconds.

Adriel Barajas (31^st) set a season and personal best with a 4:12.02 time. Jacob Boatman (4:15.06) also landed in the top-50 with a 42^nd place finish.

William Ernst (56^th, 4:19.31) and Jonah Ross (74^th, 4:29.90) finished off the 1,500.
