RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the sixth year in a row, four California Baptist University Lancers earned All-Golden Coast Conference distinction on Wednesday.
Lizette Perez earned first-team honors for the second year in a row, while Grace Ramirez and Kira O'Donell both notched honorable mention and Jamie Hutton was named to the All-Freshman Team. Those four tied a single-season high for all-conference awards at CBU for the third time.
It is the second year in a row Perez, O'Donell and Ramirez earned All-GCC recognition. News of the postseason awards come just two days before the Golden Coast Conference Championships.
Perez will graduate as the first four-time all-conference selection in CBU history, with back-to-back first-team nods to her credit. The senior driver earned the respect of the conference coaches by leading CBU in points, with 80 on 49 goals and 31 assists. She also drew 42 ejections and came up with 27 steals.
After O'Donell was named the 2018 GCC Newcomer of the Year, she drew the brunt of defensive attention for the Lancers this season. Even so, she led the team in scoring, with 52 goals and 46 drawn ejections. The attacker also had 23 assists, 18 steals and four field blocks.
Ramirez anchored CBU's defense for the second year in a row. The junior goalkeeper finished the regular season with 187 saves and 42 steals in 22 games. The Lancers are holding teams not ranked in the NCAA top 10 to just nine goals a game this season.
Hutton has finished her true freshman season strong, with 27 goals and 17 assists. She also has 25 steals and five field blocks on the defensive end. She ended the regular season with a five-game scoring streak and has four-straight multi-goal performances, including six at Azusa Pacific last Thursday.
CBU earned the GCC's sixth seed with a 14-16, 2-5 in conference record, and open up the conference tournament, which is being hosted at Fresno State, with a 1:30 p.m. game on Friday against third-seeded and currently 12th-ranked Loyola Marymount. CBU battled with LMU and led late in the first half before falling 9-5.
Friday's winner will play the victor of second-seeded San Diego State and No. 7 Santa Clara on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The losers will face off at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
