
CBU Picks Up Critical GCC Road Win over #19 Pacific in Stockton on Sunday Afternoon

STOCKTON, CA--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team picked up a critical conference road win on Sunday afternoon as they downed the #19 Pacific Tigers 13-11 behind a five-goal performance from Emmie Ramirez.
The Lancers pick up their fourth-ranked win of the season and their second-highest-ranked win of the season with the victory. CBU is now 3-2 in the Gold Coast Conference standings, putting them firmly in fourth place as the regular season nears its conclusion. The win over Pacific is CBU's first over the Tigers since 2014, breaking up a 13-game drought versus the Stockton-based squad.
The first half of the action was a game of runs between the Lancers and Tigers, as both teams went on extended scoring runs. The Tigers executed the first scoring run with two quick goals to open up the match. CBU responded with four unanswered goals to end the first period, capped off by a contested goal from Julia Almendariz to make it 4-2 in favor of the Lancers.
Pacific would answer back with a 4-0 run of its own as it would dominate the opening minutes of the second period off powerplays and penalties. The Lancers would break up the scoring run to end the half as Emmie Ramirez would register a first-half hat trick with a quick shot at the 22-second mark to make it a one-goal game. The Tigers would find another goal as time expired to give them a 7-5 lead at the break.
The Lancers dominated the third period with a 5-1 scoring advantage over the Tigers, with five unique goal scorers for Julie Snodgrass's offense. Pacific was able to sneak one in at the 2:56 mark, but the Lancers would take a two-goal lead into the fourth period. Pacific would start the fourth period off on a 2-1 run to trim the lead to just one goal. Ramirez would deliver the knockout punch with a goal at 1:28 and then further solidify the win with another goal on a powerplay with 45 seconds to help the Lancers pick up the critical league win 13-11 in Stockton.
Ramirez was the star of the show with five goals on eight shots, while Niya Bumbaca would facilitate the offense with a game-high three assists and would also tack on a goal of her own. Reese Beringer and Almendariz would each have two goals, while Tyanna Schneider would post seven saves in the cage.
