RESULTS
LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Three California Baptist University golfers secured top-15 finishes in the third and final round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Monday.
Dan Heron and Harrison Kingsley both put themselves in the top-10, while Ben Hallam tied for 14th place individually at the Oakbrook Golf Club. All three Lancers shot 73 or better on Monday, with Heron recording his second-straight of par or better.
CBU could not officially register a team score, as the team is ineligible for the WAC team title due to the transition to NCAA Division I. It would have shot a 293 on Monday and 872 for the tournament, which would have been good for fourth place.
Kansas City won the team title with an 853, while Grand Canyon (857) and Seattle U (868) took second and third. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley officially took fourth with an 875. GCU's Jake Chanen won the individual title with a 210.
Overall, Heron carded a 54-hole score of two-over-par 215 (74-70-71) on the week. The sophomore shot three spots up the leaderboard by shooting even-par 71 over his final 18. He was one-under through the front nine after back-to-back birdies at holes eight and nine after a bogey at four. He birdied at 16, sandwiched around bogeys at 15 and 17 to finish the day even par.
One shot back, Kingsley tied for eighth place with a 216 (68-75-73). It tied for the top finish of any freshman at the tournament, with Seattle U's Nathan Cogswell. Kingsley got off to a great stat, with birdies at his first two holes and then added two more birdies at 10 and 18 to finish the day just one-over par.
Hallam, a senior, finished his collegiate career by tying for 14th with a 219 (75-71-73). He needed just one birdie to shoot a solid 73 in the third round, which moved him up from 17th place where he started out the day.
Ryan Monsalve and Justin Cross took 32nd and 33rd, respectively, after both eagled on the 14th hole on Monday. Monsalve, the sophomore, finished the week with a 228 (73-76-79), while the true freshman Cross ended up with a 229 (80-73-76).
