Ryan Mota went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, a double and a home run to open up the Western Athletic Conference series. The Lancers improve to 19-10, 4-3 in the conference, while the Redhawks drop to 6-22, 2-5. The series continues with a 2 p.m. game on Saturday and then ends Sunday with a noon first pitch.
Chad Castillo also went 3-for-4, while Jeff Bruyntjens and Angelo Capolupo both batted 2-for-4 to help CBU out hit Seattle U 13-to-4. Logan Rinehart and Matt Mogollon kept the Redhawks' bats quiet to pick up the win and save on the mound, respectively, for the Lancers.

Rinehart gave CBU a tremendous quality start. The junior gave up just four hits, one walk and one earned run, while striking out five over the first 7.1 innings. Mogollon gave up just one walk and struck out three in the six batters he faced to secure his team-high fourth save over 1.2 innings
CBU got off to a great start for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Bruyntjens led the game off with a single, while fellow freshman Chad Castillo put the pressure on SU's defense with a sacrifice-bunt down the third-base line that led to an error.
Luke Navigato then scored with a chop single over the infielders to give the Lancers the first run of the game. The Redhawks fought back to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but it was a short-lived edge.

The Lancers took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. Mota got the two-run frame going with a no-doubt homer to left center. It was his 10th home run of the season, which is tied for the 16th most in NCAA Division I.

Small ball scored CBU's third run, as Rory Smith followed Mota's homer up with a single, took second on a grounder to second base and then scored on a two-out bloop single to right field from Angelo Capolupo.
Angelo Capolupo is doing his best to make his name known in this one, as he hands CBU the lead again, 3-2, with this two-out, RBI single to shallow right field. Peep that base running from Rory Smith, too!#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/H8FU2kV0Eo

Seattle U threatened to get at least one run back in the bottom of the eighth, as it put two runners on with one out. Mogollon came onto the mound in the big moment and struck out both batters he faced to keep CBU in front by two. Mogollon then overcame a leadoff walk in the ninth by retiring the next three Redhawks to end the game.
With two on and one out, Matt Mogollon comes out of the bullpen and gets two big strikeouts to keep CBU in front, 4-2, in Bellevue.
