RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the third time this season, California Baptist University produced the Western Athletic Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Andrew Bash became the third Lancer to earn the honor after he led CBU to a WAC sweep of Utah Valley on the mound Sunday. He struck out seven-straight batters at one point from the second through the fourth innings. He was a lead-off single in the game away from perfection over the first five innings.
Overall, Bash threw six strong innings for the quality start, giving up just two hits, one walk and struck out 10 to match his career high and set a new season best. The Lancers went on to defeat the Wolverines, 10-0, over seven innings due to the conference's run rule.
Angel Delgado and Travis Booth previously earned the WAC Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 25 and March 11, respectively. Bash leads the entire WAC with a 1.91 ERA this year and ranks second in opposing batting average (.207) and sixth in home runs on offense (10).
CBU plays four more games this week, first heading to CSUN for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then hosting Chicago State for its final home series of the season Friday through Sunday.
Friday's opener will feature a postgame fireworks show courtesy of Baker's Drive-Thru, Saturday's contest will have a CBU rally towel giveaway sponsored by Altura Credit Union and Senior Day will take place on the home finale.
