RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University baseball team will take to the diamond one last time in 2026 at Totman Stadium as they welcome the Sacramento State Hornets for Senior Weekend in Riverside.
The series will be the final WAC games for the Lancers in the regular season, as they will have a bye next week before heading to Mesa for the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Baseball Championships at Hohokam Stadium. The series against the Hornets will be critical, as they currently sit one game behind Tarleton State in the standings for first place.
As it currently sits, CBU is the #2 seed in the conference at 10-5 and 38-11 overall, while Tarleton is 11-4 and 31-16 overall. The Texans will have their bye week this week, while the Lancers will look to jump the Texans in their series with the Hornets. Meanwhile, Sacramento State is looking to improve its position in the standings, as it is currently tied for third at 6-6 with Utah Tech and Abilene Christian. The Hornets will be a major player in the WAC standings down the stretch as they will finish at home against Tarleton State in a series that could determine the regular-season title.
Sacramento State holds a slight edge in the season series between the two programs at 10-9, and this will be the first time the two teams have faced off at Totman Stadium since 2023, when the Lancers bested the Hornets 2-1 in the three-game series. The Hornets have some highly impressive wins under their belt this season, including a 2-1 victory over #2 LSU in a non-conference series and a game against #1 UCLA just a few weeks ago in Westwood. Most recently, the Hornets fell 1-3 in a midweek contest against UC Davis and lost a WAC series 1-2 at home to Abilene Christian.
The Lancers will be led by reigning WAC Player of the Week and Brooks Wallace Shortstop/Player of the Week Chris Ramirez, who is coming off arguably his best week of the season. The sophomore shortstop hit .700 during a 4-0 week for the Lancers and would register nine RBI, three home runs, and five doubles. Ramirez leads the conference in doubles, hits, hits per game, and runs, and is third in the NCAA in total hits with 80 thus far this season.
CBU's pitching staff continues to be as solid as ever, and they will take the mound with the usual rotation of Michael Malki, Bryan Peck, and Ryne Palmer. Malki has been the Lancer's ace this season, as he has posted a 10-0 starting record this season, which sets the DI-era record for wins in a season by a pitcher for CBU. Malki's 2.60 ERA leads the WAC and is 45th best in the country, and his 10 wins are the second most in the country behind only Joey Giordano of Richmond, who has 11.
The first pitch is set for Friday at 6:05 p.m. at Totman Stadium. Games can be streamed through ESPN+.
