LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- For the third straight year, the California Baptist University cheer team earned a Gold Paid Bid to the NCA National Championships and a Full Paid Bid to the USA Collegiate Championships.
Each year, teams from all over the country, across all divisions, meet up in Las Vegas for the NCA/USA Collegiate Camp with hopes of accolades heading into the season and a ticket to compete at the national championship in April. This marks the second straight season the Lancers have earned the paid bids since transitioning into NCAA Division I.
CBU broke last year's program first of 19 All-Americans with 20 All-Americans at the camp. Vianney Alfaro, Grace Allen, Ashley Brown, Taylor Bruce, Vanessa Copeland, Kacie Gonzales, Bre Gonzalez, Julie Haas, Makenna Hindson, Ally Hollabaugh, Nicole Lauro, Janae Magpale, Alli McBay, Alexa Pawlowski, Serena Roberts, Adelyn Rose, Tiffany Scott, McKina Stalheim, Marissa Warren, and Rebecca Wingen all grabbed honors, including four straight nods for Gonzalez during her time as a Lancer.
The Lancers secured a first-place finish in the Game Day Run-Off and the All-Girl Rally Routine. CBU finished behind Weber State in the Best All-Around by three points with 149 to place second. New Mexico State finished in third with 99 points, Utah Valley took fourth with 97 points and Fresno State finished fifth with 41 points.
CBU kicked off the Division I ranks with a bang last season, as the Lancers claimed their seventh NCA National Championship in 2019. Before joining Division I, the Lancers dominated Division II, winning seven USA Championships and six NCA National Championships.
"This is a great start to the 2019-2020 season," said Olivia Miller. "Pulling together two competition-ready routines in such a short amount of time is always a challenge, but the work was definitely worth it. The skill and dedication of this new team is exciting, and the entire coaching staff is looking forward to a great year with these athletes."
