Sester's 25 Kills Lead CBU Past Chicago State

CHICAGO – Twenty-five kills from Megan Sester helped lead California Baptist University past Chicago State on Monday night. It secured the Lancers' first Western Athletic Conference win of the season.
CBU overcame a first-set loss to defeat the Cougars (21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 26-24) in the Jacoby Dickens Center. The Lancers hit .287 as a team (62-19-150), with three players finishing with at least 12 kills.
Sester's 25 kills tied for the second-most in an NCAA-era match for the Lancers. She did it on a .469 percentage (25-2-49). The sophomore is only the second CBU player to log 25 kills in the NCAA era, with Lauren Hackett being the first (most recently in November of 2016).
Natalie Zimmerer collected her seventh double-double of the year, with 44 assists and 16 digs. Sydney Marks added 15 kills on .270 clip (15-5-37), while Christine Graf added 12 kills on a .308 percentage (12-4-26) and three blocks.
Nicole Abreu finished with a team-high 18 digs, seven assists and three aces. Yagoda Jedrzejczak added five kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks.
The Lancers improve to 7-8 and 1-1 in the WAC going into their first home conference matches of the year. CBU hosts the two WAC champions from 2018, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Van Dyne Gym before welcoming New Mexico State on Monday at 7 p.m.
Last year, the Vaqueros won the regular-season title, while the Aggies won the WAC Tournament and were the preseason favorites in the league. Fans can follow both matches with live stats and video.
