Braiden Bell, a member of the CBU broadcast team, had the pleasure to sit down with the women's team and talk about their upcoming season. Bell serves as the radio play-by-play voice of the men's basketball program and will be heavily involved with Lancer broadcasts during the 2020-21 school year. Bell, a graduate of Arizona State, broadcasted numerous Sun Devil baseball, football, men's basketball, softball, volleyball and women's basketball games. A notable highlight during Bell's tenure included being the first student in ASU history to call a game for the Sun Devil Radio Network. Bell also has experience as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Pac-12 Networks and the Orleans Firebirds Baseball Club. He has also served as a member of the Digital Team for recent NCAA Men's Basketball Final Fours.
In the women's hoops preseason preview, Bell visited with returnees Georgia Dale, Ane Olaeta and Britney Thomas. In October, Olaeta was named the 2020-21 WAC Preseason Player of the Year, while the Lancers were selected as the preseason favorites. It is the second year in a row a Lancer was named the WAC Preseason Player of the Year after Thomas earned that title for 2019-20. The Lancers 2019-20 season began as well as possible, going 7-0 only to lose their first game by just five points to the then third-ranked Stanford in the Victoria Invitational in Canada. The season ended on a high note as the team won five of their last seven games, including their final three contests, finishing the year at 16-15 overall.
