RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University announced Olivia Miller as its new head coach of the cheer program on Wednesday. Miller was promoted to the head coach title after serving as the Lancers' assistant cheer coach since the fall of 2015.
"I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to become the head cheer coach at CBU," said Miller. "It is an honor to lead my alma mater and a program of this caliber."
Miller began her collegiate career at CBU from 2009-2014, where she was a part of the first Lancer team to qualify for the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer Championship. During her time at CBU, the Lancers won their first USA Collegiate Championship in 2012 – going on to win it the next two years with Miller – and their first NCA National Championship in 2013.
"Olivia Miller is a great fit for our open cheer coach position," said Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker. "She has been a big part of our success as a student-athlete, GA, and full-time assistant. She understands our mission and wants to help her team grow in all aspects of life."
During the fall, the cheer team earned a Gold Paid Bid to the NCA National Championships and a Full Paid Bid to the USA Collegiate Championships. The Lancers kicked off the Division I ranks with a bang last season, claiming their seventh-straight NCA National Championship in 2019. Before joining DI, the Lancers dominated DII, winning seven USA Championships and six NCA National Championships.
Prior to CBU, Miller served as the head coach at Citrus Valley High School from 2014-17. She is also a certified USASF and AACCA Legality Judge.
Miller brings experience from the United Spirit Association, where she was a part of the instructional staff. In 2014, Miller was named a USA Head Instructor, where she trained staff members, and organized and managed competitions, conduct coaches and advisor workshops and trainings. She was also a member of the USA staff that helped produce the pregame and halftime shows for the 2016 NFL Pro Bowl.
"I have a long history with CBU Cheer and am excited to continue to build upon the legacy I've been a part of for the last decade," Miller said.
The cheer team will compete next at the USA College Championships on Feb. 16-17, before looking to repeat as champions at the NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Apr. 7-11.
