Lancers Classic Replay - Volleyball's Five-Set Win over UCR

RIVERSIDE — California Baptist University will continue 'Lancers Classic Replay,' a series that will feature some of the best home contests by the Lancers throughout the NCAA Division I era.
The second installment of the new series will air on Wednesday, April 1, at 5 p.m., and will feature the volleyball team's first-ever match in the CBU Events Center and the Crosstown Showdown with UC Riverside in the 2018 season. The match will be streamed on the CBU Lancers YouTube channel. Fans can set a reminder in advance about the match through YouTube.
CBU's first meeting with UC Riverside since 1997 turned out to be a five-set thriller on Oct. 23, 2018. A total of 2,768 fans came out for the Crosstown Showdown match, which set a program attendance record at the time. The Lancers pulled out the five-set win for what was their seventh-straight victory.
The Lancers won the first two sets relatively comfortably before the Highlanders came charging back to force a fifth set and even go up 10-7 in the deciding game. CBU turned things around and ended the match on an 8-3 run to secure the win on a final score of 25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 15-13.
"This team has come through time and again when it gets tight," Coach Branden Higa said after the match. "I felt like if we could just hang in there and turn one or two plays, the pressure is on them, especially in the fifth set. It kind of set up nicely for us to make that come-from-behind surge, and some players really stepped up big for us."
