
Lancers' Balancing Act Leads Them to Third-Straight Win Versus Tarleton State

ABILENE – Six players posted at least nine kills as California Baptist University volleyball won its third-straight match in four sets over Tarleton State on Friday.
Setters Hana Okuhara and Leah Pease both had double-doubles and Paige Johnstone had her second-straight match with 20 digs in the 25-23, 25-23, 27-29, 25-21 win over the Texans in a pod hosted by Abilene Christian on Friday. CBU continued to serve tough with an 8-1 advantage in aces.
The victory moves CBU into a two-way tie for third place in the Western Athletic Conference West Division standings with Grand Canyon, as the Lancers improve to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in conference. Tarleton State drops to 10-11, 2-4 as its two-match winning streak comes to a close.
There were career highs all over the place for the Lancers, as Okuhara had a career-high 33 assists, 13 digs and three aces. Pease joined her with a double-double on 28 assists and 10 digs, while Johnstone had 21 digs for her fourth 20-dig match on the year.
Chandler Gorman posted a career-high 10 kills on a .471 hitting percentage (10-2-17) and also had five blocks and an ace. Tesa Oaks had a team-high 13 kills, nine digs and three aces. Christine Graf also had 12 kills and three blocks.
Scherine Dahoue and Anouk van Noord each had 10 kills, while Laura Walewska produced a career-high nine kills to go with two blocks. Cassidy Dennison also had 12 digs in the match.
IN THE BALANCE
CBU continued to showcase its depth and balance on Friday. Nine different players have started at least five matches this season. Offensively, the Lancers have four players averaging 2.35 kills a set or more: Graf (2.92), Oaks (2.87), Dahoue (2.44) and van Noord (2.35). It's just the second time in the last 15 years CBU can say that.
WAC STANDINGS UPDATE
NM State remains atop the WAC West Division with a 6-2 conference record, while Utah Valley is in second place at 5-2 in league play. Grand Canyon is tied with CBU for third in the West and will play Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Chicago State (3-3) and Dixie State (3-4) are not far off in fifth and sixth place.
The Lancers will end the week with a match against host Abilene Christian on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pacific. California Baptist will then return to Riverside for its final two home matches of the regular season against NM State on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. and Grand Canyon on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
