RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University volleyball drew the third-largest crowd in program history for its annual match in the CBU Events Center versus Dixie State on Thursday.
A total of 1,522 fans filled the Events Center and were treated to some great volleyball. Unfortunately, it was the Trailblazers who walked away victorious in four sets (26-24, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20).
Anouk van Noord was a double threat all night, with a team-high 10 kills to go along with five blocks. Hana Okuhara had a double-double with 16 assists, 13 digs and three aces for CBU, while Chandler Gorman had a hand in seven of CBU's 10 blocks.
Leah Pease was a dig away from a double-double of her own, with 18 assists and nine digs. Paige Johnstone was two assists shy of one with 12 digs and eight assists.
Tesa Oaks matched van Noord with 10 kills in the match, while Christine Graf finished with nine of her own. Scherine Dahoue eclipsed double-digit digs (11) and Cassidy Dennison had nine, as well.
WAC STANDINGS UPDATE
The loss moves CBU into a tie for third place in the WAC's West Division with Utah Valley. The Wolverines are 7-8 overall and 2-2 in the WAC after a five-set win at Seattle U on Thursday. NM State leads the division with a 4-1 conference record coming off a five-set victory at Chicago State.
Grand Canyon is alone in second place at 3-1 in the WAC after having Thursday night off from competition. There's no breathing room between the Lancers, UVU in fifth place, with Chicago State half a match back at 2-3.
The Lancers' three-match homestand continues when Utah Valley, the defending WAC Tournament champions, visits the Van Dyne Gym for a noon match on Saturday. CBU will then play Seattle U in back-to-back matches, first in the Van Dyne Gym on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and then in Seattle Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
