RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's water polo's Zach Lowery was named an NCAA Division I All-America Honorable Mention by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches on Tuesday.
Lowery extends the Lancers' streak of producing a Division I All-America honoree to four years in a row and gave CBU its fifth D-I All-American. CBU posted a 20-14 record and went 6-2 in the Western Water Polo Association this season.
It was a historic season on several fronts for Lowery. The senior led CBU with 112 points, 70 assists and 10 field blocks. The attacker continued to do a bit of everything and ranked second on the team with 40 steals, third with 29 drawn ejections, fourth with 42 goals and won 28 of 31 sprints.
Lowery made the All-WWPA First Team at the end of the regular season for his second-straight all-conference first-team honor. He also earned WWPA Player of the Week honors on Nov. 3.
Along the way, Lowery reached several individual milestones in the process. He matched the program's single-game record with seven assists against Fresno Pacific on Oct. 8, and then updated the team's all-time assists record. He ran his career assists total to 217, which is 40 more than the previous record holder, Chris Morgan (2005-08). The Texas native also graduated holding the career record in multi-assist games (67) and games with a goal, assist and steal (61).
It all helped the Lancers advance to their second-straight WWPA Championship game and first in a full season. They also achieved their best-ever NCAA rankings at No. 11 on Dec 1 and No. 13 at the season's end.
