RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University volleyball welcomed the undefeated and overwhelming Western Athletic Conference title favorites NM State into the Van Dyne Gym on Monday.
The Lancers put up a fight and got better as the match went on, but the Aggies still came away with the straight-set victory (25-12, 25-16, 25-20). It keeps NM State undefeated at 7-0 in the WAC and overall. CBU moves to 4-4 and 3-4 in conference this season. The Lancers and Aggies will wrap up the series Tuesday at noon.
CBU had five players put up at least three kills. Calissa Hoye led the group with six kills, while Sydney Marks and Cassidy Dennison both had five. Christine Graf and Ellie Voss added four of their own. Dennison led the Lancers with six digs, while Paige Johnstone had six.
Chandler Gorman also had two blocks, while Leah Pease and Hana Okuhara finished with 12 assists each.
The Aggies appear to be headed to their third-straight WAC title after being voted the favorites in the conference's preseason coaches poll. In fact, NMSU has won 27-straight matches in the WAC, with its last league loss coming in 2018.
This season, NM State has been dominant as usual. The team has lost just three sets and has yet to be pushed to a fifth set this year.
NM STATE AT A GLANCE
NMSU is coming off a 27-4 season with a perfect 16-0 conference record. Last season saw the Aggies make their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance after not dropping a single set at the WAC Tournament to cap off back-to-back conference championships.
Overall, the Aggies have made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances under Coach Mike Jordan. They have won 11 WAC titles in their history, with regular-season crowns and five more tournament titles.
