Hutton Scores Six In CBU's Home and GCC Opener Against #12 Fresno State

RIVERSIDE – Jamie Hutton exploded for the second six-goal game of her career as California Baptist University women's water polo opened its Golden Coast Conference and home season against 12^th-ranked Fresno State on Saturday morning.

Kira O'Donell added a hat trick for the 20^th-ranked Lancers, who battled the Bulldogs in a shootout that ended 22-13 in Fresno State's favor.

On the year, FSU improves to 5-4, 1-0 in the GCC with the victory. The Lancers move to 0-7, 0-1 as they continue to take on the top teams in the NCAA. All seven of CBU's games have come against top-12 teams, with six games against top-10 opponents and four against top-five squads.

Amy Branch scored two more goals for CBU in the fourth quarter. The Lancers also got goals from Maddie Schwegler and Megan Henry.

Hutton scored all three of CBU's goals in the first quarter, as the Lancers came back from a 5-1 deficit to trail by just two, 5-3, going into the second quarter. She added goals in the second, third and fourth quarters, as well.

It ties Hutton's career-high for goals in a game after she first scored six goals at Azusa Pacific on April 18, 2019. She is just the ninth player in program history to have a six-goal game and just the fifth to do it on more than one occasion.

O'Donell, who has three six-goal games to her credit, scored all three of her goals in the third quarter on Saturday. CBU faced a 12-4 deficit less than a minute into the third quarter.

The Lancers quickly cut their deficit in half, 12-8, about three minutes later thanks to O'Donell's three goals and another from Hutton.

UP NEXT
The Lancers continue GCC play next week when they travel to Loyola Marymount for a noon game on Saturday, March 13. The Lions are currently ranked 14^th in the NCAA.
