Lancers Battle Roadrunners On The Road

SAN ANTONIO --- California Baptist University women's soccer continued its road trip on Thursday, with a first-time matchup against The University of Texas-San Antonio.
Despite both teams firing off 11 shots apiece, the Roadrunners came away with a 3-0 victory.
UTSA was able to get on the board early, scoring its first goal in the fourth minute from a deep shot by Anna Sutter. A miss-communication 10 minutes later resulted in the Roadrunners' second goal, and Sutter recorded her brace at the 21st minute for the game's final goal.
In the second half, the Lancers settled down and came out as the aggressor, pouring three shots on frame in the first 10 minutes. CBU controlled the second half, outshooting the Roadrunners, 6-4, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Karley Weeks led the Lancers with five of the team's 11 shots, while Morgan Witz recorded two, and Makayla Soll and Faith Lee added one each.
"While the result is disappointing, we learned a lot about ourselves tonight and areas we need to continue to refine," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We need to do a better job of consistently controlling the controllables. We can't expect to be in a good position to win the game if we beat ourselves with mental mistakes in any area of the field. Tonight we competed against a very good, veteran team, and they capitalized on those mistakes. This is a tough but valuable learning experience for our young squad. In the second half, our response and performance were better; unfortunately, we ran out of time. We'll learn from this and get better. Our focus now turns to UIW on Sunday."
UP NEXT:
The Lancers will stay on the road and face Incarnate Word on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 12 p.m. (PST). It will mark the second time CBU will face Incarnate Word on the pitch, as the Lancers beat the Cardinals on Sept. 13, 2019, in a 1-0 showing.
