Lancers Host a Top-15 Matchup In the Final Home Contest of 2022

RIVERSIDE - The 15th- ranked California Baptist University Lancers played their regular season home finale on Thursday night, falling to the 12th-ranked Loyola Marymount University Lions, 20-12. The Lancers' record moves to 21-11 as the Lions' record improves to 14-5. Within Western Water Polo Association competition, CBU is now 3-3, while LMU is still undefeated 6-0.
The Lancers trailed after a tightly contested first half as the Lions held a 9-7 lead at the break. Joey Griffin and Bodhi Bowden had a pair of goals each in the opening two periods, along with Jacob Sill, Caleb Teraoka, and Logan Puhl tallying one goal each.
The Lancers struck first in the third as Thomas de Wit found the back of the net, making it 9-8. The Lions responded with four unanswered goals until Bowden scored his third goal, logging himself a hat trick, his third game with three or more goals this season. The Lancers finished the fourth quarter with two more goals from Toby Bumgardner and Simon Taylor. LMU ended the game on a 11-4 run to secure the win.
Ian Escoto had three assists helping Lancers' Griffin, Puhl, and Bowden score. Escoto now has 45 assists ranking him 8th in the NCAA league leaderboard. de Wit still leads the NCAA league leaderboard as he adds another assist giving him a six-assist cushion ahead of second place.
The Lancers will head to Colorado to face Air Force on Saturday, October 29,, at 11 a.m. for their second to last game before competing in the WWPA Championships hosted by LMU.
