Lancers Match Single-Season Best Win Mark with 10-Goal Victory over Concordia

IRVINE - The California Baptist University Lancers men's water polo team went up against Concordia University Eagles for their final regular season game of 2022. The Lancers dominated in Irvine, securing a win over the Golden Eagles with a final score of 18-8.

The Lancers came out of the gate hot, scoring the first three goals of the game, and outscoring the Eagles 5-2 in the first quarter. Matt Olsen had a pair of goals, while teammates Bodhi Bowden, Cameron Cullen, and Ian Escoto had a goal each. CBU again racked up another lopsided goal count, 4-1, in the second quarter as Jacob Sill, Oslen, Joey Griffin, and Gavin McKenzie all found the back of the cage. Olsen logged a hat trick at the end of the first half as the Lancers led 9-3.

CBU secured their victory after scoring another nine goals in the second half. Two of the eight goals were from freshman Stephan Partsch who made his his colligate debut against the Golden Eagles, logging a steal as well. Thomas de Wit also tallied a goal along with an assist. De Wit remains the NCAA leader with 87 assists with Ian Christie from Air Force in second with 81 helpers and two games left to play.

CBU ended their regular season with a record of 22-12 and 4-4 in the Western Water Polo Association. The Lancers' 22 wins matches the NCAA era program record for most wins in a single season, set initially in 2018.

Next for the Lancers is the WWPA Championships on Friday, November 18th. Seedings are still to be determined but the Lancers will be headed to Los Angeles to play for a conference tournament crown as LMU hosts the event this year.
