Riverside--- The Lancers will face Long Beach State and NJIT in their opening week in the CBU Events Center for non-conference matchups as they begin their first year of NCAA eligibility after completing the four-year transition period.
The 2022-2023 Men's Basketball team is comprised of seven returners and 10 newcomers. Notable returners for the Lancers include Preseason All-WAC First Team selection Taran Armstrong, Tre Armstrong and Reed Nottage who all finished in the top 5 in both minutes played and points per game for the 2021-2022 season. CBU also welcomes in transfers such as Riley Battin (Utah), Joe Quintana (Loyola Marymount), Blondeau Tchoukuiegno (New Hampshire) and Timothy Ighoefe (Georgetown).
CBU was picked to finish fifth in the WAC preseason poll, receiving one first place vote. Sophomore guard Taran Armstrong was selected to the Preseason All-WAC first-team after a stellar freshman season in which he averaged 10.5 points per game and was top five in the NCAA at 6.3 assists per game. Armstrong earned WAC Freshman of the Year and guides the Lancers into their 2022-2023 season with high hopes. He finished the season as the only freshman in the NCAA to average over 10 points, six assists, and five rebounds per game on the year. The last freshman guard to record a 10/6/5 average on the season came from Ja Morant of Murray State in the 2017-18 season.
The Lancer's schedule is highlighted by a loaded non-conference schedule that includes games against the University of Washington in Seattle (Nov.17), University of Minnesota in the SoCal Challenge (Nov.21) and a home game against Central Michigan (Nov.26).
