Johnstone Hits Career Milestone as Lancers Get Critical Road Sweep Over Utah Tech

ST. GEORGE --- California Baptist University volleyball secured back-to-back sweeps for the first time this season after defeating the Utah Tech Trailblazers (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) in St. George on Thursday night.
In the opening set, the Lancers trailed by four points early but rallied to defeat the Trailblazers 25-21. Michalina Rola recorded two critical aces for the Lancers in the first set, while teammates Anna Jackson, Christine Graf and Scherine Dahoue combined for eight kills to seal the opening set for the Lancers.
The final set was full of momentum swings for both sides with the Lancers ultimately finishing it out with a Scherine Dahoue kill to end the match in three sets. The Lancers recorded 15 kills in the final frame and posted a hitting percentage of .300.
The Lancers finished the match with 41 kills and 4 aces. The Lancers got contributions from everywhere with four players finishing with at least six kills led by Christine Graf with 10. Leah Pease put up a double-double with 19 assists and 18 digs, while Michalina Rola had three service aces to guide CBU to an important WAC road victory.
Senior Paige Johnstone set a major career mark during the game, securing her 1,000th dig at part of an 18 dig effort in Utah. The mark puts her 11th all-time in the Lancer record books as she becomes the first Lancer to reach the milestone during the Division I era.
The victory moves the Lancers record to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Trailblazers fall to 4-7 in WAC play and 10-10 overall. The sweep puts the Lancers in sixth place in the conference standings with the New Mexico State Aggies falling to Utah Valley in Orem.
The Lancers will stay on the road to face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Sat. Nov. 5th in Cedar City, UT.
