Volleyball Goes Five Sets at Southern Utah

Cedar City, Utah - California Baptist University volleyball battled Southern Utah through five sets in a 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 25-14, 16-26, 15-7) defeat in an important late season Western Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday. However, the Lancers still control their own destiny to qualify for the WAC Tournament at this stage of the season with just two matches to go.

Christine Graf led the way for CBU with a team-high 17 kills and four blocks. Chandler Gorman had a team-high six blocks and Leah Pease had a team-high 27 assists for the Lancers.

CBU moves to 10-13 overall and 5-7 in league play, while SUU improves to 7-14 and 6-6. The Lancers now sit in eighth place in the conference standings. CBU returns to Riverside to close out the regular season with a pair of WAC matches with Utah Valley on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and Seattle U on Nov. 12 at noon.

The top eight teams in the WAC standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the WAC Tournament to be hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Nov. 17-19. Utah Valley is currently in second place with a 16-8 overall mark and 10-2 WAC record, and Seattle is winless in the WAC (0-12) with a 4-16 record this season.
