Lancers Sweep Doubleheader On Final Day Of Mary Nutter Classic

UCSD
Inning number one was a blur as both pitchers combined to throw just 13 pitches to collect the first six outs. The middle of the Lancer lineup came out swinging in the top of the second as Makayla Jordan and Amanda Argomaniz smacked back-to-back doubles, scoring Jordan on the latter.
Michaila Harrington reached third as a pinch runner for Argomaniz, and soon found herself in a rundown. Maile Olsen hit a strong bouncer to the UCSD shortstop, who decided to try to get Harrington before she scored. After five U-turns, Harrington broke for home, scoring as the throw sailed wide right of the Triton covering home. Olsen kept eyes on the play though and ended up scoring herself off of her own fielder's choice hit in that at-bat.

The Tritons were always threatening, knocking 10 hits on the day. Those hits finally paid off for UC San Diego in the sixth and seventh innings when they scored one and two runs to force extra innings. With the international tiebreaker in effect, Mia Alvarez started the inning at second and that's all CBU needed. Alvarez advanced to third on a passed ball and a mishandled drag bunt from Raegan Cheyne scored Alvarez for the game-winning run.
The Tritons nearly evened the game in the bottom half of the frame, advancing their runner to third with just one out. Relief pitcher Jazmine Castaneda earned the win after forcing UCSD into a groundout and a line out to end the game. Castaneda's victory came after tossing just two innings and allowing two earned on three hits.

GAME TWO
CBU took on UC Davis in the tournament finale for the Lancers. They scored single runs in the top of the first and the top of the sixth when they got a loud solo homer from Olsen.

The Aggies would take one back on a sharp liner in the bottom of the sixth inning, but CBU responded by plating four in the top of the seventh. Amanda Argomaniz slapped a two-run single, followed by Olsen connecting on another RBI hit, this time a double and the scoring was capped with a Deja Westbrook RBI single. Starting pitcher Jordan Schuring earned her first Lancer win in the process.
Tournament staffing limitations have delayed the box score and statistics from being readily available, the story and webpage will be updated when those become available.
