
SB PREVIEW: Lancers Open Home Action With Seven Home Games

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University softball is fresh off a winning weekend at the Mary Nutter Classic. The Lancers secured the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent in the NCAA Division I era when they took down #24 BYU on Friday, 6-3.
CBU currently stands at 8-7 on the season as it prepares for 14 home games in a row, starting with Wednesday's doubleheader against the University of San Diego.
The Argomaniz sisters again led the way for CBU in Cathedral City. Amanda collected team highs in hits (five) and runs batted in (seven), while Alyssa led from the circle. She earned the win against BYU and a save against UC Davis, while recording nine strikeouts against just two earned runs in four appearances.
For the season, Jazmine Castaneda still leads the pitching staff in wins with four and holds a slight edge in opponent batting average at .244. Alyssa Argomaniz has improved her ERA every weekend since opening day and currently owns a 3.00 ERA, with a staff high 30 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, the big weekend allowed Amanda Argomaniz to catch up and tie Makayla Jordan for most RBI, as both have recorded 10 so far. Jordan holds the home run lead with a pair. Katelyn Mangrello is pacing the pack with 12 hits, but it is Maile Olsen who currently boasts the best average on the team at .320.

USD also took part in the Mary Nutter Classic last weekend, playing five games and collecting just one win against Bethune-Cookman 9-2. The Toreros struggled defensively in the four losses, being outscored 35-10 and outhit 42-18.
The Toreros are led at the plate by Noelle Hee. She owns a .411 batting average, having hit safely in 13 of the 15 games she has appeared in this season. In the circle, the Toreros are likely to start Courtney Rose and Madison Earnshaw on Wednesday as they have eaten up 83 of the 108 inning that USD has played so far this season. CSUN and CBU faced off just two weeks ago at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, with the Lancers coming out on top 4-2. Amanda Argomaniz and Olsen provided much of the game one offense while Castenda and Alyssa Argomaniz combined in the circle to secure the win and save, respectively.
North Dakota State is off to a great start this season, piling up a 10-4 record with a six-game win streak built up during the middle of the run. The Bison aren't phased by taking on opponents on the road as the team from Fargo, North Dakota, plans to be in the away dugout until they open their home schedule on April 9. NDSU has kept it close in all four of their losses so far, losing by a total of four runs, while winning big with a +56 run differential in victories.
Oregon State enters the tournament with a 12-3 record including impressive wins over #20 Tennessee, Iowa and Baylor. Frankie Hammoude is hitting on a completely different level to start the season for the Beavers. She currently owns a .500 average (21-42) with 12 runs scored, 16 runs batted in, and is averaging one home run per three hits. The collective Beaver pitching staff owns a 1.38 ERA and has already racked up 130 strikeouts through 15 games.
