Lancers Take Home Hardware At USA Collegiate Championships

ANAHEIM --- California Baptist University's cheer and dance teams brought home the hardware at the United Spirit Association Collegiate Championships over the weekend.
The cheer team recorded its 10th straight USA Collegiate Championship after winning the All-Girls Four-Year College Division. The Lancers recorded 92.9 points on the first day to sit in first over Stanislaus State (89.9), George Fox (84.9) and Sonoma State (82.7). With a three-point lead going into the final round, the Lancers continued their dominance, posting 93.46 points to win the event by 6.63 points over the field. Stanislaus State finished in second, Sonoma State placed third and George Fox finished in fourth.
The final score is comprised of 30 percent of the day one score, with 70 percent coming from day two.
The Lancers also claimed their first-ever championship in the USA Game Day Championships – College Band Chant Division. CBU posted 91.5 points to win the event over Portland State, Angelo State and the College of the Sequoias.
"I am incredibly proud of our programs showing this weekend," said head coach Olivia Quick. "Taking home our 10th straight USA Championship and our first Game Day Championship was a great way to build momentum for the rest of our competition season."
As for the dance team, the Lancers won both Division I Jazz and Pom Championships.

"I am so proud of these teams and all of their hard work, determination, and focus that they have put into this year's competition season," said head coach Kristy Kane Mapes. "Coming home with two D1 titles in both Jazz and Pom against such talented other teams is a huge accomplishment. These athletes set their goals high at the beginning of the year, and I could not be more proud of them all."
The Lancers will set their focus next on the CBU Cheer and Dance Showcase on April 2 in the CBU Events Center before heading to the NCA/NDA College Nationals in Florida on April 7-9.
