
MBB Preview: Lancers Open Longest WAC Homestand Against Lamar On Feb. 10

RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University's men's basketball team will host its longest Western Athletic Conference homestand of the season, as the Lancers start the three-game home series against Lamar (Feb. 10) and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Feb. 12).

Thursday's game against Lamar will mark a first-time matchup between the Lancers and the Cardinals. Lamar made the transition to the WAC on July 1, 2021, with fellow Southland members Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, and Sam Houston.
Notable Notes:
- Lamar is in search of its first WAC win this season with a 0-11 record in conference play.
- LU has a well-balanced scoring attack with four players averaging double figures.
- C.J. Roberts is the Cardinals' primary scorer, averaging a team-best 14.3 points per game. Roberts is second on the team in minutes played per game at 28.4mpg.
- Jordyn Adams, Davion Buster, and Kasen Harrison are the other three Cardinals averaging double figures.
- Harrison leads the team in minutes per game at 29.3mpg.
- Lincoln Smith fills up the paint for LU, with a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game.
- Alvin Brooks was named the program's 12th head coach on April 1, 2021. Brooks returns to the program that he led to the 1980 NCAA Sweet 16 as a player and where his coaching career began.

Saturday's matchup against The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be the fifth meeting between the two programs and the third in the CBU Events Center. The Lancers and Vaqueros' all-time series matchup is tied at 2-2.
Notable Notes:
- UTRGV enters the week at 7-16 on the season and 2-9 in the WAC.
- The Vaqueros split last week's series, grabbing a 93-79 victory over Lamar on Feb. 2 before falling to Abilene Christian on Feb. 5, 83-66.
- When it comes to the all-time series against the Lancers, all four games have been decided under 10 points.
- Justin Johnson fills up the stat sheet for the Vaqueros, averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.
- Johnson is fourth in the WAC when it comes to points per game.
- Marek Nelson is the only other UTRGV player in double figures with 10.8 points per game.
