Lancers Extend Winning Streak to Seven Games at Claremont Convergence

CLAREMONT – California Baptist University women's water polo rattled off its seventh-straight win as it swept back-to-back doubleheaders at the Claremont Convergence this weekend.

The Lancers defeated Wittenberg 19-6 in game one and then beat Augustana College 19-2 on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool. CBU has now won eight of its last nine games to improve to 11-9 this season. Wittenberg and Augustana fall to 4-8 and 1-8, respectively.

Caelan Loroff and Melissa Quon scored multiple goals in both games for CBU. Nicole Rhoads and Avery Wood each had tricks on the day.

CBU has next week off from games and will return home after a 14-game road stretch to host VMI on Wednesday, March 16 at 3 p.m.

WITTENBERG
Eleven Lancers scored and seven put up multiple goals in CBU's 19-6 win over Wittenberg. Rhoads led the way with a hat trick, while Cayleigh Carter, Maddie Schwegler, Loroff, Quon, Lahela Rosario and Rayne Lopez all scored twice.

It was actually goalie Madi Crookston who led CBU in points with four assists, four saves and a steal in the game. Carter, Loroff, Quon and Lopez all had three points with an assist, while Lopez also drew an ejection.

CBU scored six of the game's first seven goals, with Schwegler scoring the team's first two. Carter and Rosario also scored twice in the first half to give the Lancers a 10-3 lead going into the break.

The Lancers outscored Wittenberg 9-3 over the second half. Rhoads scored twice in the final two minutes to complete her first hat trick of the season.

AUGUSTANA
California Baptist scored 19 goals again in the win over Augustana. Thirteen Lancers scored this time, led by a hat trick from Avery Wood for her first career goals. Celeste Almendariz, Jamie Hutton, Loroff and Quon all scored twice in the game.

CBU scored the first seven goals of the game, with two coming from Hutton. Augustana managed to cut its deficit down to 9-2 before halftime, but the Lancers ended the game on a 10-0 run. Wood scored all three of her goals in the final 9:46 of regulation, while Quon score twice in the final nine minutes, as well.
