CBU Closes Out Series Against Utah Valley

OREM - California Baptist University softball closed out a three-game series against Utah Valley on Saturday, with the Wolverines taking the win in the finale by a score of 6-3. The Lancers are now 24-23 overall with a 6-9 record in the Western Athletic Conference, while Utah Valley improves to 16-17 on the year and 7-8 in league play.

Nicole Stark and Sydney Soto brought it on the offensive side of the plate. Stark collected a career-high three hits with two singles and a double. Soto added a 2-for-4 game with a single and her second triple of the season.

Soto was locked in early for CBU, starting the game off with a triple, leading to the first run of the contest when she scored on the next at-bat by Priscilla Estrada. Soto would come through for her team again in the second inning, this time recording an RBI on an infield single to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

Utah Valley would recover offensively in the third and fourth innings, plating five runs to take back the lead. The Lancers would recoup a run in the top of the fourth, thanks to Stark's double to start the inning and a Raegan Cheyne RBI slap single down the left field line to make it just a 5-3 Wolverine advantage.

Utah Valley would regain a three-run lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double to right field and would hold onto that cushion to close out the series.
