
CBU Closes Out Regular Season With Big Performances at Fresno State Invite

There were a pair of top-two times in CBU history recorded on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Greta Karinauskaite and Said Mechaal nearly broke Lancer records set earlier this season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5000 meter, respectively.
CBU will wrap up its season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. Seattle U will host the conference meet on Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14.

Karinauskaite added to her magical season when she won the steeplechase with a time of nine minutes, 52.28 seconds. It was less than a second off her CBU record time and was good for the 12th best time in the country this season, which makes her the only individual in the NCAA with two top-12 times in the steeplechase this year.
Emilia Mikszuta added to the history in the race, as she took seventh place in 10:35.37. It was good for a top-10 time in the event by .01 of a second.
Three Lancers broke 14 minutes and logged top-10 times in program history in the men's 5K invite race. Mechaal took second place in the race and clocked the second-best time for CBU with a 13:48.68. Ivo Balabanov took fifth (13:58.41) and Giedrius Valincius was seventh (13:59.86), just off personal records. Matias Reynaga (10th, 14:15.29) and Arturs Medveds (14th, 14:23.71) also ran to top-15 finishes.

On the women's side, Yasna Petrova took seventh place and logged the seventh-best time in CBU history in the 5K (16:34.56).

In the 5K open race, Rikus Van Niekerk used a strong final kick to take second place in his heat and overall while setting a personal record of 14:09.05 to update his top-10 individual time.
Luis Chavez used an incredible final kick to win his heat and take third in the 1500 meter on the men's side. His time of 3:49.81 was not only a personal best but ranks him in CBU's individual top-10 in the race. Dylan Van Der Hock (19th, 3:54.52) and Tyler Tickner (23rd, 3:56.67) also ran sub 3:57s in the event.

Florian Le Pallec clocked the fifth-best, 1500-meter time in CBU history, with a 3:45.43. It was good for seventh place in the race and made him the only Lancer with two top-five times in the event.
CBU logged two top-10 times in the women's 1500 meter. Anneken Viljoen clocked a top-10 time in Lancer history when she took fifth place in 4:26.77, while Carlota Rodes made CBU's individual top-10 with a 4:33.26. Karin Gosek (25th, 4:37.30), Pinja Kotinurmi (33rd, 4:44.05) and Sylvia De La Pena (40th, 4:50.74) also took top-40 in the event.
Mia Cabrera took sixth place in the 800 meter with a time of 2:12.49.
