For the men, Le Pallec recorded top-two times in the WAC in the 5K (13:41.75, first) and 10K (29:22.07, second) this season. Said Mechaal is also seeded second in the 5K (13:48.68). Karinauskaite is poised for another big conference meet, as she's the top seed in the 5K (15:58.91) and steeplechase (9:51.43) after she took second in both races last year. Viljoen is also the top seed in the 1500 (4:21.53) after her runner-up finish in 2021.
During the regular season, CBU logged 27 top-eight times in the conference during the regular season, with 18 on the men's side and nine for the women. Top-eight finishers in each event will score points in conference, while top-six finishers will earn all-conference honors, with first-team distinction for the top-three finishers and second-team awards for fourth through sixth.
Last season, California Baptist finished fifth as a team on both sides. CBU produced a total of 17 all-conference finishers at the conference meet, with three champions and nine first teamers (five women, four men). Both teams scored their most points yet at the WAC Championships, with 61 on the men's side and 60 for the women, for fifth-place finishes on both sides.
The Lancers have been in strong form this year, and clocked 41 top-10 times in program history already, with 27 for the men and 14 for the women, including five program records.
