MARICOPA --- California Baptist University's women's golf team claimed a podium finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday, as the Lancers moved up five spots to place third out of 22 teams.
In the largest field of the season, the Lancers produced the only even-par team score during Tuesday's final round to move up the five spots to claim a podium finish. The Lancers have now finished inside the top-4 in 14 of the last 16 events dating back to the 2019-20 season.
California Baptist gained five strokes during the final round to finish with a 21-over-par 885 team score to edge out Grand Canyon and Nevada, who both finished T-4th. Santa Clara held onto its day one lead, winning the two-day event with a 16-over-par 880 team score. Long Beach State stayed in second with a 19-over-par 883 total.
The Lancers placed three golfers inside the top-30, as Filipa Capelo was the top finisher for the Lancers with a 6-over-par 71-75-76=222 to place T-20th. Jocelyn Chee moved up 14 spots to place T-29th and finish behind Capelo with a 7-over-par 76-76-71=223.
Haruka Shintani tied with Chee at T-29th with a 7-over-par 72-74-77=223, while Hailey Loh climbed up 10 spots to finish T-36th with a 9-over-par 76-77-72=225.
Sofia Chabon made the most noise on the day, shooting a 3-under-par 69 to help the Lancers secure the top-3 finish. It marked the fourth time this season Chabon has carded a round under-par, and it moved her up 38 spots to place T-56th.
Claire Choi of Santa Clara went wire-to-wire to win the individual medalist with a 3-under-par 70-71-72=213 to take a two-stroke lead over the 117-player field.
The Lancers will take the momentum into the next two weeks when they compete in the season's final tournament at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The event will be held in Kerrville, Texas, at the Riverhill Country Club. This marks the final year of the transition period, where no team score will be recorded, and the players will compete as individuals.
