
Seven Lancers Earn All-Conference Honors on Day One of WAC Championships

SEATTLE — California Baptist University track got off to a strong start at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday. The Lancers produced seven all-conference honorees by virtue of top-eight performances at the University of Washington's Husky Track.
CBU's men scored 32 points to give it first place in front of Grand Canyon (15) and Sam Houston (10). The women are in sixth place with six points on the day. Florian Le Pallec highlighted day one with his championship run in the men's 10,000 meter. He took first place by more than five seconds with a time of 30 minutes, 56.85 seconds. The Lancers took five of the top-six places in the race.

Right behind Le Pallec, Matias Reynaga took second (31:02.24), Roman Zozulia came in third (31:04.61), Arturs Medveds fourth (31:08.66) and Luis Chavez placed sixth (31:11.77).
Carlota Rodes and Yasna Petrova each earned all-conference recognition in the women's 10K. Both broke what was the WAC Championship record going in, as Rodes took fifth in 34:09.21 and Petrova came in seventh (34:16.82).🏅 𝘼𝙇𝙇-𝙒𝘼𝘾 🏅

The Lancers qualified five runners for the 1500-meter finals, including four of five runners on the men's side. Anneken Viljoen was the lone qualifier for the women after she posted the top time of prelims, a 4:38.33.

Said Mechaal, Rikus Van Niekerk, Dylan Van Der Hock and Giedrius Valincius moved on in the 1500 for the men. Mechaal won his heat in 4:04.57. Valincius logged the top time of the prelims for CBU's men at 3:56.19, while Van Niekerk ran a 3:57.36 and Van Der Hock put up a 3:57.58.

Day two of the WAC Championships will begin at 5 p.m. for CBU on Friday. The Lancers will run the 800-meter prelims and steeplechase.
