SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – California Baptist University women's basketball sophomore Trinity San Antonio will begin play in the FIBA Women's World Cup on Wednesday. San Antonio was selected as a representative of team Puerto Rico and has spent most of the past two months training with the team on the island and playing tune-up games around Europe.
San Antonio burst onto the scene last year as a true freshman, averaging 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game in her first season playing under Head Coach Jarrod Olson. She announced herself to the Western Athletic Conference with a 24-point effort against Chicago St. in her first-ever league contest.
Puerto Rico was slotted in Group A for the tournament, a pool that includes the tournament favorites, Team USA. Pool play will consist of five games, with the results determining which teams move onto the knockout stage of the tournament. Results will factor into Olympic qualifications.
Trinity will wear the same No. 23 for Puerto Rico as she does for CBU when play begins on Wednesday for us here in California. The Puerto Rican squad will open the entire tournament, challenging Bosnia-Herzegovina at 5:20 p.m. Pacific.
Puerto Rico will then face the United States on Thursday (5:20 p.m. Pacific) before getting a day of rest on Friday. Saturday will bring on the challenge of Belgium (3:20 a.m. Pacific) with another rest day before taking the court against China on early Monday morning (12:20 a.m. Pacific). Pool play will close out for Puerto Rico later on Monday in the States, but on Tuesday in Sydney, with a final game against Korea (6:30 p.m. Pacific).
All games will be broadcast on ESPN+, with many also available on YouTube and Courtside 1891. Follow this link for a full list of game pairings, times, and viewing options.
