
Lancers Finish First Day of Nick Watney Invitational

KINGSBURG --- California Baptist University finished the first two rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers sit in 12th out of 16 teams.
Fresno State is playing host to the two-day tournament held at the Kings River Country Club on the par-71, 6,623-yard course.
Long Beach State jumped out to a 6-stroke advantage after the first day, shooting a 21-under-par 547 team score. Cal State Fullerton finished behind the Beach in second with a 15-under-par 553 team score, while host Fresno State is in third with a 12-under-par 556 team score.
CBU went into the clubhouse with a 12-over-par 580 team score and is four strokes off cracking the top 10.
James Mackie led the way for the Lancers, firing a 1-over-par 72-71=143 to place T-28th. Luke Bartram moved up 11 spots during the second round with an even-par 71 for a 74-71=145 to place T-42nd, while Eeli Kujanpää finished T-42nd with Bartram with a 3-over-par 73-72=145. Sean Citherlet closed out his day with a 5-over-par 73-74=147 to place T-56th, and Ryan Fisher signed a 10-over-par 152 to finish 83r. Chanhee Ryu played as an individual for the Lancers, tying with Citherlet at 56th.
Ian Gilligan of Long Beach State finished as the day one leader with a 12-under-par 130 to take a three-stroke advantage over the 93-player field.
The Lancers will close out the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 27, with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m.
