Lancers and #17 Bison Clash, Leake Comes Away Victorious

RIVERSIDE--- The Lancers faced off against their fifth-ranked opponent of the season as they welcomed the #17 North Dakota State Bison to the Van Dyne Gym. The Lancers emerged victorious in two rounds but ultimately succumbed to the Bison 38-3.
The Bison came into the match 5-2 with a ranked victory over Nebraska and great showings at the Southern Scuffle and Bison Open. The Bison featured five of their seven ranked wrestlers, including #2 Jared Frank and two others who placed in the top 20 in their respective weight classes.
The Lancers had a strong start with Chris Island going the distance with #29 Juan Mora and lost by a late takedown by Mora. Island had a pair of takedowns against the ranked heavyweight from the Bison. Peter Acciradi also went the distance in his match and lost a defensive battle in the third period to #31 Deanthony Parker of NDSU 3-2 in a decision.
Frank Almaguer had a strong showing against #15 Michael Caliendo III that came down to a decision. Almaguer registered four escapes in the match and gave Caliendo all he could handle.
Hunter Leake came away with the lone Lancer victory as he defeated McGwire Midkiff of the Bison 7-2 in a decision. Leake registered two takedowns and two nearfall points to bring home the win for California Baptist University. Leake's victory marked his fifth dual victory of the year.
