CBU Earns First-Ever BIG-12 Win in Laramie

LARAMIE--- California Baptist University faced off against the Wyoming Cowboys in a BIG 12 showdown in Laramie. The Cowboys entered the contest 0-7, having wrestled against all ranked teams in their duals, while the Lancers have had similar struggles coming in at 1-7. The Lancers came away victorious to earn their first-ever BIG-12 conference win with a 22-10 road victory.

Wyoming featured two ranked wrestlers in the match in the 125 and 157 weight classes, respectively. Both were ranked in the top 25 in the InterMat polls, and #21 Jacob Wright brought home one of the Cowboy's three wins on the afternoon. The Lancers won seven of the ten matches, six by decision.

Elijah Griffin was again victorious with the 10-1 major decision over #22 Jore Volk. It marked the third time Griffin had defeated a ranked opponent, and he did so in dominating fashion. Griffin posted three takedowns in the dual and had two nearfall points while only giving up an escape.

Other winners for the Lancers included Antonio Saldate, Chaz Hallmark, Louis Rojas, Peter Acciardi, Caden Gerlach, and Chris Island. Saldate and Hallmark earned their first dual wins of the season by decision.

Louis Rojas and Chris Island also came away victorious, giving them their first-ever dual wins in the BIG-12. Rojas posted a takedown and reversal in his victory. Gerlach posted a 4-0 win and accumulated 2:44 minutes of riding time.
