CHICAGO, IL--- The California Baptist women's golf program carded a second-place finish as freshman Pusanisa Ekkantrong earned her first career individual win at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Lancers finished with a 916-team score to make second out of twelve teams in Chicago. Ekkantrong delivered a strong performance during the final two rounds and tallied a 222 final tournament score.
Sofia Chabon started her third tournament of the year strong, shooting even with par through the first round. She bettered her overall score in the second with a 1-under mark to keep herself in the top five golfers. Ekkantrong recorded the lowest round of the tournament during the second half of the first day, earning a 5-under (67) during the second round. She finished the third round with a 2-over-par for a total score of 222, and her first individual tournament win.
The CBU squad all finished in the top 50 golfers of the tournament, with Samantha Dizon finishing in 26th with a final score of 237. Damini Law Ghanshyani finished 29th, and Filipa Capelo participated in her first tournament of the season, clocking in a 243 final score. The Lancers ranked second in par 4s and par 5s out on the course, fairing well on a difficult course. The most challenging hole of the two-day tournament was number three, holding a par 5 mark. Every single Lancer carded at least even par or under par during one of the three rounds through the tournament, securing the second-place finish.
This is the Lancer's second individual tournament winner this season after Chabon earned first at the Payne Stewart Memorial tournament at the beginning of the season. Head Coach Marc Machado now holds 19 individual tournament victories as skipper of the CBU women's golf program.
The Lancers will now head to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, to participate in the Little Rock Golf Classic hosted by the University of Little Rock Arkansas at the Diamante Country Club from October 22nd through the 24th.
